Glenn (Guitarzan) Stiglic Born July 17, 1957, he grew up to be a
spry 5' 9", black hair with barely an ounce of fat, due to his active
life style that includes surfing, serious mountain biking, running and
other various exercise regimes. His daily routine includes several
hours of guitar scale and musical exercises with the steady click of the
metronome. On stage he strikes an impressive figure behind any one of
the many guitars: Fender black, white or yellow strats, pink
telecasters, red Ibanez, black Les Paul, various red or sunburst Gibson
and his favorite: a rare vintage Ventures guitar. When the occasion
calls for it he has been known to pull out a steel guitar or even a
mandolin.
He began playing guitar and piano at the age of 8, probably influenced
by his father who is an accomplished classical guitarist. Glenn
received a B.A. in music composition in 1980. Played in big bands with
Maynard Ferguson and Toshiko Akiyoshi as well as rock and jazz. He also
toured Hawaii with the show group called Sunshine Company until 1983.
After performing with various groups in So. California clubs and events,
he auditioned for Ronny and the Classics through MCS (Musician's Contact
Service). After interviewing a good number of guitarists, the Classics
found Glenn to be the rare exception to actually own a late model car
(to get to rehearsals and gigs), a watch (so he can be on time), a
checking account (some place to actually manage an income), a home with
a phone (so he could be contacted), NO DRUGS, and the ability and
willingness
to play all kinds of music and share the spotlight with other talents.
Thus in 1988, Glenn joined forces with Andy, Freddy, Steve and Ron to
become the Classics as we know them today. Glenn's active life style is
matched by a tremendous but selective appetite with a severe weakness
for chocolate. He can identify the presence of herbs and spices in
foods better than Elmer Dills and should probably write a book about
which caterers or facilities serve the best meals.
Glenn has become a good friend, tolerant of other's deficiencies and
complimentary of one's talents or gifts. Although he owns a Dodge pick
up truck that looks like it just came off the show room floor, his love
is the motorcycle. He owns a Yamaha Shadow, a custom Triumph that turns
heads of Harley riders and is presently restoring an old British
Velocette. He resides with his wife, Sherry (once in the same band
together) and their son, Elliot (black belt in Tae Kwon Do)
in Long Beach close to where he can engage in his favorite sport,
surfing. (50 degree water and hurricane driven waves don't phase him in
the least).
