Andy Horway, Keyboards, was born in New York, New York 12-21-51 to
parents Andrew and Marianne. He has a brother, Paul and
Sisters Suzanne and Sonja. Raised in Pasadena and Glendora and
educated in Lincoln School, Pasadena. Graduated from the Glendora High
Class of 69 and finally went to Citrus Jr. College.
First instrument was piano (4 years lessons) and played at church a lot.
He also took 5 years of Violin. Musical influences were doo wop songs,
Santana, early 60's pop with some favorites being Lil Richard and
Chester Thompson. His favorite color is Red, car-57 Plymouth Fury,
song-Frankenstein, comedy idol-Monty Python.
As far as activities or hobbies, you'll see him taking walks (especially
in Tahoe), on a bicycle, taking a drive in a car or better on his
Motorcycle, a Kawasaki Vulcan, green that you can hear at least 3-5
miles away. His main love besides music is cars. Driving, fixing,
observing or owning. Thus performing for car shows is always a big
bonus. Some bands he has performed in are the following: Phase III,
Feeling, Kekos and Horway, Glass of Sherry and Jawbone. One of the most
memorable performances was with Ronny & the Classics for Hot August
Nights in Reno 96 & 97. Andy has a gritty no nonsense humor spurned on
by the likes of Beavis & Butthead, South Park even Ren & Stimpy in the
old days. Every now and then a favorite edgy joke might find its way
just before his performance of Run Around Sue or Wanderer.
He joined Ronny and the Classics when it was still Jawbone, along with
Rene Kakebeen and Don Chilcott, therefore, he goes back to 1982. He was
and is very instrumental in the development of the show, the music, the
humor, the energy and the personnel in the group.
People often ask, is that his real hair? and does he wear it like that
all the time and how does he do it. It is real and he only wears it for
the audiences delight and how he does it is a trade secret. (hint: cheap
hairspray)
He plays a Roland Phantom S-88 which can be split into as many as five
keyboards. Hence you'll hear piano, organ, strings and horns at some
time throughout the night, sometimes all at once. Occasionally you'll
hear Arnold Shwartzenegger or South Park or K-Earth's "More Oldies"
chime from his library of 1000's of sound effects or sound bytes he has
stored for the right occasion. If no one applauds, he can even do that
for us or himself.
Although the costumes change with our moods and what ever strange thing
we might find, Andy has been known to wear everyone's favorite bright
red suit, or the blue teletubby outfit with a yellow coat or watch out.
Although mostly behind the keyboards providing the integral Ronny & the
Classics sound he does come to the forefront to display his vocal and
fronting talent on songs such as: Beyond the Sea, Mack the Knife, Run
Around Sue, The Wanderer or the Righteous Bros.
At present Andy resides in Ontario with his wife, Debra and son Andrew
(plays violin, bass and guitar)
On the side he also owns and operates a very successful furniture and
appliance delivery business, now and then employing Freddy for some
heavy lifting. This then is the mini autobiography of Andy Horway, a
great friend, there when you need him, a good family man and great
entertainer and musician.
